My discussion of uppekha is dedicated to my husband Ward, My nurse, my driver, my financial support, my best friend.I showed Ward the uppekha meditation, but it's too far into philosophy to interest him. Still it reminded me of him. He has been my best teacher of uppekha, as I see how he struggles to learn equanimity in this situation: a wife who is very sick. He wants so much to help, and there is so often little he can do but watch me flail around. Can uppekha be sent, as metta can? Why not? May Ward enjoy equaniminty; may Ward enjoy peace of mind. May I enjoy equanimity; may I enjoy peace of mind. May all beings enjoy equanimity; may all beings enjoy peace of mind. |
