Charles S. Prebish

To review: these books are ones I'm eager to get, or on my shelf waiting to be read, or that I've read and am trying to get time to write about.

Luminous Passage: The Practice and Study of Buddhism in America
Berkeley, University of California Press: 1999.

Another scholar-practitioner, "Prebish gives us not only the mature thought
of someone who has been on this road awhile, but also plenty of narrative
into the history and progressive re-envisioning of his own understanding
of the subject.

(David L. McMahan; see his whole review: PDF format; HTML format.)

This is not a comprehensive survey, but treatment of selected topics, including sexual and gender issues, and the phenomenon of "cybersangha." Moreover it's not a general introduction; you need some familiarity with terminology and traditions, to follow his thought.

After reading McMahan's comments, I'm looking forward to seeing what Prebish has to say.
