Charles S. Prebish
To review: these books are ones I'm eager to get, or on my shelf waiting to be read, or that I've read and am trying to get time to write about.

- Luminous Passage: The Practice and Study of Buddhism in America
- Berkeley, University of California Press: 1999.
Another scholar-practitioner, "Prebish gives us not only the mature thought
of someone who has been on this road awhile, but also plenty of narrative
into the history and progressive re-envisioning of his own understanding
of the subject.
(David L. McMahan; see his whole review: PDF format; HTML format.)
- This is not a comprehensive survey, but treatment of selected topics, including sexual and gender issues, and the phenomenon of "cybersangha." Moreover it's not a general introduction; you need some familiarity with terminology and traditions, to follow his thought.
After reading McMahan's comments, I'm looking forward to seeing what Prebish has to say.
