To review: these books are ones I'm eager to get, or on my shelf waiting to be read, or that I've read and am trying to get time to write about.

River of Fire, River of Water; An Introduction to the Pure Land Tradition of Shin Buddhism: New York, Doubleday: 1998.

Another scholar-practitioner who writes movingly about his path. Shin has problems for me as a feminist, most strikingly the language that brands everyone as "evil." However the idea that there is a force in the universe that inevitably draws us to enlightenment rang deeply in my heart when I first read about it, and I am currently pursuing this path.
