Sangha via Electronic Communication
Email and Web-based communities like forums give us easy communication all over the globe. For handicapped people like me, electronic communication can give us human contact we otherwise lack. At the same time, e-com has its problems. We don't see the facial expressions of the people we're "talking" to, or hear their tone of voice. Keeping track of a conversation among a group is much more challenging than in a face-to-face gathering. A sangha is a group who practice together, and support each other's individual practice. Words can be a poor vehicle for what we're about, in Buddhist practice. Here you will find thoughts on how an electronic sangha can work. 5 June 2000 |
